Eighty-year-old musician spoke about aging in a recent guest appearance on the "The Interview" podcast of the "New York Times" list, and when asked if there was anything good or bad about being older, Mick Jagger replied that "there is nothing good about it".
"Absolutely nothing. You don't become wiser. You forget everything. I've forgotten all my wisdom. Maybe I had a few pearls of wisdom once, but I forgot which ones. It's not particularly pleasant. Of course, you can't do things as quickly as you used to want to, and physically you can't do everything you want. You can still, but you have to be much more careful," said Jagger.
He also spoke about how over six decades of world fame has affected his relationship with everyday life.
"Obviously, this is not normal. This is not the life that most people lead. It affects you. You can distance yourself from other people,” he believes, and then reveals how he managed to stay grounded despite the fame: “Go out on the street and do ordinary things,” he said briefly.
In the conversation, he also touched upon the relationship "Rolling Stones" with the audience, emphasizing that they want their concerts to be a place where people can escape from everyday worries, not political lectures.
“The essence of my job in the world of concert music is to allow the people who come to have the best time possible and to forget all their problems and the problems of the world for two hours. Mortgages and everything else. Just to have a really good time," said Jagger, adding that the performer's task is to further carry the audience with the energy of the concert.
“Your job is to make them even more crazy. You don't want to give them lectures,” he believes.
Jagger's statements come after "Rolling Stones" released their 25th studio album “Foreign Tongues” on July 10th.
The album became their 15th number one on the British list of best-selling releases, equalizing with "The Beatles" in second place on the all-time list. Only Robbie Williams is ahead of them now.
Although he is not enthusiastic about aging, Jagger recently revealed that he is still writing new music intensively.
“Yes, maybe there will be a third album. I've already started writing new songs. Maybe it will be for other performers,” the famous rock star revealed.
